Large fish injures foreigners in Costa Rican waters

October 21, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The National Coast Guard Service conducted a rescue operation for a Portuguese fisherman who was injured by a large tuna fish.

The Ministry of Security explained that the rescue took place on Saturday, to help the foreigner who suffered an accident at sea.

He was performing a maneuver of his own when a tuna fish hit him in the head, causing some injuries, so a private helicopter brought him to the Coast Guard Station in Caldera to receive emergency medical attention,”

said the entity.

The report received by the Coast Guard said that a fisherman identified as José Dos Reis Goncalves de Brito was aboard the Taurus tuna vessel with a Venezuelan flag when he suffered the accident.

After the incident, the man was taken by air to Caldera and subsequently to a private hospital in San José.
