A year ago, the State Phytosanitary Service (SFE) of Costa Rica decided to ban the entry of Hass avocados from Mexico.
According to the director of SFE, Francisco Dall’Anese, the fruit grown in Mexico was infected with the plague “sunblotch”.
However, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the United States certified that the Hass avocado grown in Mexico is free from pests, and thus allowed the exportation of fruit to the United States, Hawaii and Puerto Rico from June, 27th.
