Marcela Guerrero, legislator from the party Acción Ciudadana (PAC), demanded the swift approval of bills aiming to fight money laundering, including casinos’ regulation.
The request was made following the investigation of the alleged tax evasion case linked to Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, which is connected to Costa Rican businessmen and politicians.
According to Guerrero, organized crime’s profit on money laundering amounts to more than $ 2 billion a year and only 1% is intercepted, which is why the legislator is asking for a green light on the new bills and amendments to old ones.
The Legislature has 90 days to investigate the case and define the necessary corrective actions.
