Ozone therapy is a treatment based on the use of the ozone molecule to control pain caused by some diseases and it is also implemented as a complementary treatment.
Alexander Petgrave, Torre Médica Momentum neurosurgeon, explained that this is a first-line treatment. However, it
is not recommended when there is absolute surgical indication.
This treatment was originated in Germany as a natural response to help or heal certain diseases. It was proved that
it improves tissue oxygenation because it acts on hemoglobin.
There are several conditions that can be treated with ozone therapy. For example, those related to viral, bacterial or fungal infections, such as: diabetic foot, varicose ulcers, non-healing wounds and herpes, among others.
Among its therapeutic benefits, we can mention:
1. Regulation of oxidative stress.
2. Improvement of the oxygen metabolism.
3. Immune modulator.
4. Metabolic regulator.
The treatment consists of a mixture of oxygen and ozone, which is achieved by passing pure oxygen by a high voltage and high frequency electric discharge. This chemical reaction produces a gas with ozone quantities that will change according to the pathology and the treatment. This gas, when in contact with the body, produces therapeutic chemical changes.
