In order to reduce traffic accidents, College of Physicians and Road Education Board agreed to implement further changes in the process to perform the physical exam to obtain driver’s licenses. It will include an online course, so that only the doctors who passed it have the authority to make the medical examination.
This update will provide a more detailed driver’s license and it will take into consideration drivers’ physical conditions, and what kind of adjustments or improvements their vehicles should have,
said Alexis Castillo, president of the Board.
Regarding people who wear glasses, hearing aids or prosthetics, some driving limitations could be established based on the physician’s assessment. In addition, that information could be useful to determine whether the license should only be to drive automatic transmission vehicles or they must make a specific adjustment to the car.
Doctors can also decide whether the test should be done annually, every 2 years or in any period that they decide. they can also define if the license granted should be for less than a six-year period in there is any medical condition or illness in order to determine if the condition has decreased the driver’s abilities during that time.
