Although the Constitutional Court ordered the national water company (aYa) to implement a solution to arsenic contaminated water in several communities in Guanacaste, the final solution will not be ready until May of 2014. In August, the Comptroller authorized the direct hiring of a firm that was selected in December. Construction is expected to begin in four months. An estimated 10,000 people in Bagaces and Cañas are currently receiving truck deliveries of water.
