Failures in the power system and the poor conditions of different appliances are the main causes of 42% of fires in the country.
As confirmed by Alex Solís, head of the Prevention and Investigation Unit of the Fire Department, the most common failures have to do with facilities in poor conditions, overload and deterioration of facilities and overloading extensions.
It is important to make a permanent reviews of facilities every 5 years and that they comply with the electrical code. Facilities have to use special pipes for cables, the employees must know how many computers are installed in a circuit and a qualified technician is the person who must review or install the systems,”
said Solís.

Similarly, Solís said the little maintenance that is given to different electronic devices causes fires, especially if unofficial repairs are combined with the overhead extensions.
In 2015, failures in the power system accounted for 33% of fires, failures in electronic devices accounted for 15%, and welding jobs for 11%. Although accidents with candles represent only 6% of fires, 6 people have died this year for this cause.
