The controversy generated by the decision of the Costa Rican delegation of abandoning the General Assembly of the United Nations was defended by Manuel González, minister of Foreign Affairs, in a post on his Facebook page, which stated that the delegations are not obliged to listen to all the representatives in New York.
The President decided to retire because he doesn´t agree with some events that took place in Brazil. We have not offended Brazil at all (…) throughout the impeachment of former President Rousseff, Costa Rica maintained a discreet position, the country understood that it is an internal constitutional process, “
declared the minister.
Costa Rica abandoned the session along with the countries from the ALBA. These countries are questioned due to their governance. As consequence, it might be understood that Costa Rica shares the philosophy of these nations. This situation was described as absurd by the Chancellor.
To interpret that the President’s lack of interest in listening to Temer’s speech makes Costa Rica a country from the ALBA is the most unfounded and absurd things I’ve heard,
claimed González , pointing out that the country has no interest in joining that organization.
