According to the latest publication of the Internet State report, published by Akamai Technologies, during the second quarter of the year, Costa Rica had a significant drop in its world ranking of global development network connections.
According to the study, Costa Rica went from occupying the 105th position to occupying the 114th position. In 2015, the country was in the 102th position, which means a fall of 12 positions in the first half the year, with an average connection speed of 3.5 megabytes per second (MBPS), when the average global connection is 6.1 MBPS.
The publication also shows a sharp drop in the spread of broadband Internet in the country: Costa Rica went from the 90th position to the 103th position, where only 27% of connections have a speed exceeding 4Mbps, compared to the global average that reaches 76%.
Although Costa Rica has been dropping positions, it has always managed to improve the average Internet speed and the percentage of broadband adoption nationwide. However, this report shows that both statistics are also falling compared to previous periods.
