According to former hostage Ingrid Betancourt, The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) also deserved the Nobel Peace Prize along with President Juan Manuel Santos.
In a telephone interview with Betancourt, when asked about the matter, she answered:
For me it is very hard to say yes, but I think so.
Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize due to his efforts to carry out a peace process to reach a peace deal with the FARC. This deal was rejected by Colombian people in a referendum that took place on Sunday.
I’m very, very happy with the award,
declared Betancourt, who was the presidential candidate from the ecologist party when she was kidnapped in 2002.
I think it is not only well-deserved, but it also invites to reflect, to think of hope , peace, joy and it tell us that peace cannot take a step back. Santos has virtually fought alone to get that result, he is changing the country’s history because it gives new Colombian generations the possibility of having a different country.
concluded Betancourt, who now lives in France, England and the United States.
