Marcelo Guerrero, legislator from Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC) reported that most of the 92 motions aiming to amend the bill of incentives and promotion of electrical transport undermine the objectives of the initiative.
The initiative intends to reduce fossil fuel consumption and to promote the use of zero-emission technologies.
According to Guerrero, proponent of the project, the changes suggested by Purdy company affect the original spirit of the initiative because it is intended to include net hybrid vehicles that run exclusively with hydrocarbons that pollute the enviroment because they have a combustion engine.
The lawmaker recalled that the original text includes the promotion and benefits only for electric cars or rechargeable hybrid cars. The latter can be connected to a plug and produce zero emissions when operating on electricity.
The legislator made clarifications due to the information released by Purdy Motor Group, who asked to expand the initiative to other technologies and not exclusively implement it for electric vehicles.
In this regard, she said that drivers’ reluctance to purchase electric vehicles is due to their fear of getting stuck before reaching a recharging station, which is a problem solved because of the technological progress Costa Rica has had.
