A bill aims to grant legal powers to municipalities to eradicate slums

Legislator Juan Marín, from Partido de Liberación Nacional (PLN), presented a bill that aims to grant legal powers to municipalities to eradicate slums.

The initiative aims to give power to municipalities to develop urban projects and social housing within its territorial jurisdiction, in order to timely and adequately meet the interests of low-income families.

Marín explained that the legal powers that municipalities would receive are protected in Article 59 of the Law of the Financial System for Housing and Creation from BANHVI.

The legislator said that if successful, the initiative will benefit families, people with disabilities and elderly, with or without family, and young couples with no housing and whose monthly income does not exceed 4 minimum wages.
