A bill aims to punish those who have aedes aegypti and aedes albopictus mosquito breeding sites. However, the bill hasn’t been read in the Legislature.
The bill was presented on November 10th, 2014, when the first Zika outbreak hadn’t taken place around the world.
The initiative establishes fines that go from 42,000 to 212,000 colones.
The government has not insisted on it, I presented the initiative at a meeting, but it seems that the Executive is not interested in the project: it hasn’t informed or requested anything.
declared legislator Mario Redondo.
Rodrigo Marín, from the Ministry of Health, admitted that they haven’t emphasized in the project as they should but he guarantees authorities are interested in the law. According to the official, a law would become part of the solution, but he is not sure if the problem will end.
In 2016, the Ministry of Health treated and eliminated more than 2 million mosquito breeading grounds in near half a million homes throughout the country.
Health authorities urge people to clean yards and all areas where water stagnates to avoid further health problems.
