From March 27th to March 31st, an educational campaign on dengue, chikungunya and zika diseases will be held in 1,100 pharmacies of the country.
The initiative is organized by the College of Pharmacists of Costa Rica.
The idea is that pharmacy professionals provide relevant information on each of the diseases, their risk factors, symptoms, consequences, precautions.
The doctors will answer people’s quetions and doubts about these diseases and will carry out special activities to motivate the Costa Ricans to have a greater knowledge about them.
In the framework of the work against the threat of these diseases, the pharmacist can guide the population about prevention and control of the disease, identify suspicious signs and symptoms and refer people to health services for a diagnostic evaluation,
declared pharmacist Catalina Venegas.
According to the most recent epidemiological bulletin of the Ministry of Health, 575 cases of zika have been reported, of which 110 have been confirmed. So far this year, there have been 99 cases of chikungunya and 748 of dengue.
230,879 mosquitoes breeding sites were also eliminated, 145,873 houses were visited, 81,243 were fumigated and 5,604 breeding site with eggs or larvae were found.
The campaign is a collaborative project of the Pharmaceutical Forum of the Americas, the International Federation of Pharmacy (FIP), the FIP Foundation for Education and Research and the College of Pharmacists of Costa Rica.
