The drug trafficking organization dismantled by Costa Rican authorities is linked to the Mexican Sinaloa cartel. During the operation, police authorities and the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) arrested 14 suspects.
Minister of Security Gustavo Mata declared that there were 24 raids on properties that belonged to the organization. During this operation, suspected members of the band were arrested.
Mata explained that the investigation began in 2014 and since then, police has repeatedly hit the organization.
The minister explained the organization received the drugs by sea, land and air from Ecuador and Colombia, they stored in Costa Rica and then transported it to Mexico or Guatemala.
President Solís stressed the importance of the operation:
I wanted to emphasize the patience and coordination that our authorities have had, as well as the fact that this is an integral hit to the internal structure of the network, because it even affects its leaders.
Solis stressed that the organization controls great amount of real estate, cars, boats and other assets that will be seized.
On April, 2016, a small plane crashed in the northern province of Guanacaste with 250 kilos of cocaine and about $ 45,000, an incident in which two Mexican citizens died.
In addition, last week, police raided a farm in the north of the country and 432 kilos of cocaine and 1.6 million dollars in cash, among other goods, were seized.
