An Italian-ancestry woman, linked to the Italian mafia, admitted that she traveled to Costa Rica in 2014 to pay $ 360,000 to national drug traffickers who were in charge of sending cocaine, wrapped in boxes with cassava, to the United States.
Eleonora Gigliotti pleaded guilty for the crime of drug-trafficking conspiracy. Months ago, her husband Gregorio and her son Angelo were convicted for trafficking 55 kilos of cocaine from Costa Rica .
To protect the business, the Gigliotti family used Cucino to Modo Mio pizzeria, located in Queens, New York, as front organization.
The woman faces a prison sentence of 5 to 17 years. However, New York’s judicial authorities will read the ruling on April 12th.
Gregorio, leader of the organization, could be sentenced to 20 years in prison. In addition, Angelo could spend 12 years in jail.
During a raid on the pizzeria, authorities seized drugs, weapons and cash.
The Gigliotti family was related to a recognized capo of the Calabrian Mafia, identified as Anthony Genovese, who apparently has bonds with N’dragheta mafia organization.
