A swimming suit for mastectomized women!

Finding the right bikini or bathing suit is very difficult for women who have undergone a mastectomy.

Erika Rojas and Jennifer Vega created the Aramacao Bikinis brand in October 2015, where they started the traditional swimwear company. However, seven months ago, they started designing bathing suits for women who had breast cancer and were mastectomized.

This line was launched two weeks ago in the framework of the International Design Fair (FID). These are bathing suits that have a pocket in the chest area in which prosthesis can be placed.

According to Erica Rojas, from the moment they decided to make this proposal, they started to look for fabrics, to make designs, and to make tests with mastectomized women to see if they worked well and if the pockets and fabrics were the right ones.

During that period, we also interviewed patients, specialists and people working in foundations to get to know the process a person diagnosed with breast cancer goes through,

explained Rojas.

In this process, they realized that not all of these women use silicone prostheses. They found women who use prosthetic devices such as fabric fillings or simply a foam because, although many have undergone mastectomy, others have only undergone quadrantectomy (extirpation of a quarter of the breast).

For this reason, many of them did not need a very large pocket.

For this group of women, they made three designs.
