The attack was occurred on Saturday morning when the group of migrants traveled in a truck that was intercepted in the municipality of Juan Rodríguez Clara, about 500 kilometers from Mexico City.

The truck was attacked with bullets by hooded people dressed in black, with long weapons and a vehicle labeled as police, according to a report from the authorities. One survivor of the attack, who wishes to remain anonymous with the media, said that when the police realized that migrants were traveling in the truck, they got them out and left.

The governor of Veracruz, Cuitláhuac García, described the attack as “excessive” and ordered attention for the survivors.

Hundreds of them requested repatriation and more than two thousand have begun the legal process to settle in Mexico permanently. The caravan of about seven thousand people has begun to dissolve.
