Businessman Abel Salas will be the chairman of the board of directors of the Bank of Costa Rica (BCR) starting on Monday. The new hierarch is a political scientist with postgraduate degrees in business administration and education.
Shirley Gonzalez will be the vice president.
The first meeting of the board of directors appointed by the Governing Council, following the suspension of the previous directors, was held on Monday afternoon.
In spite of this, four of the previous directors filed a writ of amparo against the measure that, if accepted, would leave without effect the decisions taken by the directive that was installed on Monday.
President Luis Guillermo SolĂs’ move to suspend the directors of his office has already caused the reaction of two rating agencies, Moody’s and Fitch, which pointed out the risks for the institution because of a conflict within the board of directors.
The suspension, according to the Minister of the Presidency, Sergio Alfaro, was made as
a precautionary measure while carrying out the process that was opened against them.”
