Acapulco, in Puntarenas, is unknown, it is silent. There are almost no houses, and it has a school that was attended by 9 children in 2017.
Its residents say that they can sleep with open doors. Citizens assure that they live in peace.
They do not even imagine that the Violence Observatory of the Vice Ministry of Peace places Acapulco as the place with the highest number of homicide complaints, as reported by 2016 Atlas of Crimes.
The title seems offensive because there were only 3 homicides 2016, but when we base our opinion on the density of the population, we realize that the 1,000-inhabitant town occupies the first place.
In Acapulco there is only one school, a supermarket and a cemetery with less than 60 headstones. In its desolate streets, which lead to Monteverde, few vehicles are driven and all neighbors know each other. They assure they live in harmony, with only 2 working options.
Residents indicate that there is not a connection between the authorities of the city and the town and when it comes to security, neighbors point out that police presence is almost null.
In fact, people in the area dream of having a place where children can play football, wear Puntarenas colors and try to keep the younger ones away from drugs. They also dream of having a church that carries a message of hope to these humble people who feel forgotten.
