In view of the constant rains in different parts of the national territory and the passage of a Tropical Wave on the Pacific Slope, the National Commission for Risk Prevention and Emergency Response (CNE) activated the operational structure for emergency care.
According to the report of the National Meteorological Institute (IMN) tropical wave # 5 will maintain rainy conditions and thunderstorms throughout the national territory, specifically in sectors such as the Santos area, and other sectors such as Grecia, Palmares, San Ramón, Atenas, and towards Guanacaste all that is the mountainous area such as Monteverde, Abangares, Bagaces, Cañas, among others.
This has involved the activation of the Municipal Emergency Committees (CME) and the strengthening of the operational management of the CNE to deal with possible incidents in the coming days.
As a result of heavy rains, there were more than 100 incidents concentrated mainly in the areas of Pococí and Desamparados, which generated saturation in the sewers and sudden growth of some streams, causing flooding in some homes and landslides on vulnerable land. One of the most affected sectors was the district of Los Guido where a shelter was set up for four families.
The CNE urges the population, mainly those who are in risk areas prone to flooding or landslides, to:
– Be vigilant to the weather conditions and attentive to the information coming from the IMN and the CNE.
– In the event of an electrical storm and strong gusts of wind, take shelter in a safe place.
– Abide by the instructions from the authorities and the Municipal Emergency Committees, to safeguard their lives and that of their families.
– In case of evacuation, take into account all members of your family including your pets.
