The problem with migrants continues. From early morning, dozens of newcomers, mostly Africans, are lining up outside Los Chiles Catholic Church to have breakfast. The same situation is taking place in two shelters with 200 people in La Cruz, Guanacaste.
Foreigners entered Costa Rica through Panama, but they had to stay in the country due to Nicaragua’s border closure.
The first center does not have the support of the National Emergency Commission (CNE), as confirmed by doctor Carolina Rosales, member of Los Chiles’ Health Department. This center is managed by Brother Victor, as an altruistic work to help the ones that need it the most.
Despite of doing a good job, the center requires improvement, so migrants can have a better life,
stated Rosales.
Costa Rican Red Cross is also helping. As confirmed by National chief of Disaster Relief and Operations, Jim Batres, Las Vueltas and Jobo’s shelters are helping migrants and they are even taken to the hospital if needed.
Chancellor of the Republic, Manuel González, preferred not to talk about this issue and said it is a matter of the Department of Immigration.
