After several months of investigation and three confidential calls denouncing drug sales, , the Police Drug Control (PCD) arrested four suspects, alleged members of “Los Nicoyanos” drug gang in Palmira Carrillo in Guanacaste.
The calls were received in July 2016 and the investigation resulted in the capture of the suspects, including the alleged leader of the gang, an 18-year-old man named Duarte, who conducted his illegal business in the districts of Filadelfia and Palmira.
The PCD reported that Duarte had partners who allegedly used violence and firearms to gain territory from other groups in the area. At the same time, the investigation revealed that the gang operated near a school in Palmira.
Duarte, also known as “Gallito”, has a record for drug and weapons possession.
The authorities also arrested a 21-year-old woman named Ramírez, a man named Chavarría, 24, known as “Chancho pelado” (skinned pig) and another man named Cerdas, 36. The latter has a record for aggravated theft, infringement to the Weapons Act, vehicle theft and aggravated threats.
The PCD seized 289 doses of marijuana, 252 doses of crack, a dose of cocaine, 85 thousand colones, a 9 mm firearm, 15 bullets, a cartridge, an “artisanal” shotgun with two cartridges, among others items.
