On Tuesday, President Carlos Alvarado will ask the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for Costa Rica to enter this forum.
Alvarado will hold a meeting with the secretary general of this organization, Angel Gurría, and will participate in an OECD assembly as part of his activities in France this week. The Minister of Commerce, Dyala Jiménez, accompanied him.
To date, the country has obtained the approval of 12 committees as part of its program of adhesion to the OECD, to complete the process, subtract the approval of another 10 in the areas of competition, statistics, anti-corruption, financial markets, public governance, analysis and economic development, environment, investment, corporate governance and fisheries.
Last May, Gurría expressed his confidence that Costa Rica would formally enter this organization by the end of this year or the beginning of 2019. Costa Rica would become the fourth Latin American member, after Mexico, Chile and Colombia, whose entry was announced last week.
A meeting with the Director General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, is also scheduled for Wednesday.
