The digital media Ojo al Clima, from Semanario Universidad, refuted two aspects of the speech if President Carlos Alvarado, this Tuesday at the Climate Action Summit.
The media specialized in climate change issues said that two statements of the President in his speech on Tuesday in New York “are not quite true.” The media refuted aspects about the size of the electric vehicle fleet in the country and the number of charging points for these cars in the country.
In his speech, Alvarado said that the electric vehicle fleet has grown by 500% in the country, which according to Ojo al Clima, is false.
While the fleet of electric vehicles increased, it is far from 500%. In addition, although it increases, in absolute terms it remains insignificant compared to the increase of the fleet of gasoline vehicles every year,”
said the media.
Data provided by Ojo al Clima indicate that the electric vehicle fleet went from 1,202 units in 2017 to 1,626 units in 2018 (an increase of 35%). If only cars are considered, the growth is 118% (143 to 312).
The closest is the growth between cars imported in 2017 and cars imported until August 2019 is an increase of 346% in one year and eight months,”
said the publication.
Similarly, the media questioned the information provided by Alvarado that the entire national territory has been equipped with recharge infrastructure for this type of automotive.
The media maintains that the recharge infrastructure still does not cover all 82 cantons in the country. In the whole province of Limón there are only three recharging points.
