The Guatemalan Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) considered that the first economic measures announced by President Donald Trump, such as removing America from the TPP and reviewing the FTA with Mexico and Canada, would benefit Central America.
President Trump’s announcements represent a competitive advantage for the region. In the case of the Transpacific Agreement (TPP), the manufacturing sector will be benefited when compared to the Asian countries,
declared AMCHAM president Juan Pablo Carrasco at a press conference.
Carrasco commented that the region should take advantage of the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with Mexico and Canada to increase its exports to the United States.
The leader stressed that the new US ruler has not said that the FTA will change with Central America, which is another competitive advantage for the region.
However, he warned that Guatemala could miss these opportunities because it has not improved its infrastructure and logistics, as other countries in the region.
