An italian trafficker was evading authorities in Costa Rica

Danilo de Bonis, an Italian linked to a murder and drug trafficking in his country, was arrested in Costa Rica, after more than three years on the run. He moved to Costa Rican territory to escape from Italian authorities.

De Bonis was wanted due to Salvatore Ramponi’s death in 2011. The victim died when one of the 90 cocaine balloons he was transporting bursted.

After the investigation, the Italian authorities determined that De Bonis was the owner of the drug.

Apparently, the arrest took place after a series of Facebook posts: the fugitive was identified because of some pictures in the Caribbean where he was hiding. They were posted on Facebook and found by investigators.

With the information on social networks, Genova police informed the Interpol office located in San José. It was known that De Bonis used social network profiles with other names.

De Bonis’ activity related to drug trafficking would not have finished. Police suspects that in Costa Rica, he kept contact with Italian groups dedicated to traffick drugs to Europe.

De Bonis will be deported to Italy in the coming days.
