We managed to close the entire Route 32, the Palmares Bridge, San Ramón, Puntarenas, Alajuela, and Cartago. We’ve had an excellent movement in Limón, it exceeded our expectations.”
These were the remarks by Gilberto Cascante, president of the National Educators Asociacion (ANDE), when asked about the indefinite strike that started on Monday.
Cascante said that they received a huge support during the first day, because they even closed 80% of teaching centers.
Data from the Ministry of Education (MEP) show that by noon on Monday, only 481 schools had made the participation report requested by the institution, and only 7,412 employees did not show up for work, out of 11 thousand.
Regarding the possibility of being subject to sanctions by the MEP, he warned they will defend the strike in court.
