MarViva foundation invites people to question what kind of fish they purchase, if it reached maturity or if it is an endangered species.
In order to get people involved in responsible consumption, the foundation launched the Responsible Fish Consumption campaign that urges people to learn about the species before buying them.
To make it simpler for the public, they came up with a free app named MarViva: Guía Semáforo, which contains a species glossary, their general description and consumer information which warns with red, yellow and green colors whether it is advisable to consume a species or not.
This is a great initiative because, according to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), 57% of marine fish stocks are fully exploited and 30% overexploited, depleted or recovering.
