The General Regulator, Roberto Jiménez, explained that on November 27th the Board of Directors of the entity will analyze the criteria of illegal transport that was elaborated by the Customer Service Department and the Deputy Regulator, given that this area is assigned to that issue.
As reported by the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP), this Tuesday they’ll reveal their position on paid transport service for people through collaborative platforms, such as Uber; after receiving several letters from taxi drivers who demand that the service be suspended.
On Monday, a group of 50 to 60 taxi drivers began a demonstration due to the lack of enforcement of the law by ARESEP. The drivers remained outside the building of the regulatory authority, located in Guachipelín de Escazú.
Although the ARESEP opened the door for a meeting, the taxi drivers refused and insist on a written response with precautionary measures against the “pirate” transport. They urge the closure of Uber offices and want details about the judicial proceedings against arrested drivers providing the unregulated service.
