Artistic clay pots: a new option to brighten your spaces

Matitas is a brand of artistic pottery and hand painted pots that open an option for those who want to give up plastics without losing decorative taste.

It is also great for those who are hunting for colorful and original pieces to brighten spaces with natural plants.

Entrepreneurs Paula Múnera and Juan Carlos Flores, from San José, joined their passions: the love of gardening and art, to create this eco-friendly product.

Our idea is to discourage the use of plastic, a material that also cracks and is discarded in the trash. But clay in the end is just dirt. I love gardening and then I thought about talking to Juan Ca, who is a plastic artist, to create something nice, that’s how Matitas was born,”

said Múnera.

According to Paula, these containers are handmade, dried in the sun and, therefore, they are all different with irregularities that make them unique.

On the other hand, Flores, plastic artist, is in charge of giving color and personality to each pot.

From Café, Books + Arts coffee shop in Escalante, a place that also exhibits the pots, both creators explained that the most popular line is called “Barrios”.

At first it was a stage of experimentation and little by little we started looking for a type of urban folklore. The line “Barrios” could be any buildings in Barrio Mexico,”

said Flores, who added that he tries to look for beauty in urban disorder.

The designs are sealed against moisture with a special varnish to delay deterioration.
The designs can be customized, according to the measurement of each piece. They can also be used as wedding souvenirs, basket tea and office parties.
