Authorities caught crocodile that prowled near Puntarenas

Officers of the National Coast Guard Service caught a crocodile that prowled near several houses in Jicaral de Lepanto, in the central canton of Puntarenas.

The police action took place on Tuesday morning, after several locals met with the reptile in their community, which caused great concern among the neighbors, as they feared for the safety of their children and pets.

That is why an operation was immediately organized with members of the Environmental Unit of the Coast Guard Station of Caldera and park rangers from the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE). The two coastguards who were in charge of capturing the crocodile have extensive experience in this type of mission.

After performing various maneuvers to avoid being attacked by the animal, and avoid harming it as well, the officers managed to immobilize it and transfer it, with the support of the park rangers, to a mangrove located in Puerto San Pablo de Nandayure, Guanacaste.

This is the second incident with crocodiles so far this year. At the beginning of January a female crocodile was relocated by the Public Force, as it represented a threat to the community of Cuatro Millas, in Matina, Limón.
