Authorities deny presence of paramilitaries in the country

August 16, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The Director of Public Force Daniel Calderón denied the information related to the presence of Nicaraguan paramilitaries in Costa Rica.

This week, a viral message sent mainly via WhatsApp warns the population about the alleged arrival of Nicaraguan military due to the migration crisis in the neighboring country.

We do not have any information to support this. They are false news that tend to cause alarm in the population,”

said Calderón.

The police chief explained that there have been operations and intelligence actions to detect suspicious movements, but to date, everything has been denied. Calderón said that work continues to be done in the face of the migratory wave to guarantee the country’s security.

This is the message on social networks:

URGENT! DANGER!
NICAS WHO ARRIVE IN THE COUNTRY ARE FROM THE MILITARY. WARNING OF A POSSIBLE INVASION IN THE NEXT 62 HOURS
Confidential information from agencies states that the Nicaraguans who are arriving to COSTA RICA are military members of the Sandinista government and whose goal is to frighten the people of Costa Rica, according to telephone interventions and messages. Three more contingents are expected and an invasion to the town of SAN CARLOS. In addition, those who are already in the country are waiting for orders to take police delegations. Similarly, the in the 62-hour period 1000 Nicaraguans with criminal records would be arriving requesting refuge, as well as other members of the guerrillas, since the Nicaraguan government released more than 400 rapists and 350 murderers with the condition of invading Costa Rican lands. This information comes from intelligence agencies. For security issues, it is recommended not to treat or hire these people and never let them into homes. Be cautious, do not neglect your children and loved ones.”
