Train’s service to Paraíso, in Cartago, would be a reality next year, as confirmed by Christian Vargas, president of the Instituto Costarricense de Ferrocarriles (INCOFER).
In September 2014, President Luis Guillermo Solís announced that the train would be servicing Paraíso by middle 2016, but it didn´t happen because there was a cutback in the project’s budget and it had to be stopped.
Vargas explained that with the purchase of 15 new trains, they could expand the service in Cartago and in San Rafael de Alajuela. According to Vargas, they are currently working on the recovery of the track and maintenance works are carried out on the rail network.
