Authorities released 41 of the 44 people arrested on Saturday’s riots

Only three of the 44 people arrested on Saturday’s violent protests against Nicaraguan migration went to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. This was confirmed by the Office of the Prosecutor in a tweet on Sunday.

The office of the Ministry of Public Security, said that 44 people went through an ordinary process.

They were identified, the police created a record, and the Prosecutor’s Office gave them a citation.”

It is worth mentioning that Minister of Public Security Michael Soto, in an extraordinary conference held on Saturday night at the Presidential House, said that

the judicial records of those arrested were analyzed and it turned out that most of them had a criminal record.”

In that same activity, the police authorities identified the people who caused acts of violence in San José and described them as members of sports bars and followers of Nazi and anarchist ideologies.

The demonstrations on Saturday began at La Merced Park, continued to Central Park and ended at Plaza de la Cultura. The participants caused disturbances and there were clashes with the Public Force.

These xenophobic actions were censored by the international community.
