Coast Guard officials from the Ministry of Public Security rescued a huge sea turtle, seriously wounded by a harpoon that pierced part of its shell. An alert was received and after an intense search, authorities found the two people who were transporting the reptile.
Despite the injuries, the animal is still alive and it was sent to Jaguar Rescue Center in Puerto Viejo, where it was assisted.
This species is endangered, so that, they are protected in almost every country in the world. It is illegal to capture, injure or kill turtles of this kind.
Last week, officers from the National Guard, shared with dozens of schoolchildren in coastal areas some messages of care and protection of Costa Rican natural resources.
