Public Safety Authorities reported on the seizure of approximately 771 kilos of cocaine during two operations in Guanacaste and Limón. The Minister of Security, Michael Soto, explained that according to the first investigations, it was determined that the drug was not destined for national territory.
The first of the cases occurred 40 nautical miles from Flamingo in Guanacaste, where National Coast Guard personnel traveled at sea after detecting a stranded fishing vessel.
It’s a fishing boat named Fakir, inside which we located 531 hidden packages of cocaine and three Ecuadorians and five Costa Ricans, who were arrested as a result of the operation. It is necessary to indicate that the route that these people followed led them to the north of our territory, that is probably to Nicaragua,”
explained Soto.
In the last hours, the Drug Control Police (PCD) also managed to find a container loaded with honey and approximately 240 kilos of cocaine in the port of Moín, Limón. The product was supposed to reach Belgium..
The 771 kilos of drugs on both days are in the custody of the Drug Control Police and will serve as evidence for the Public Ministry to prosecute the suspects.
