Two men were apprehended on Wednesday morning in the area of Llano Grande de Cartago, according to the Press Department of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ). They apparently committed the crime of fuel theft.
The arrest was carried out around 5:00 am, when both men were traveling in a truck carrying 16 fuel tanks of one thousand liters each. According to the press office of the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (Recope), 12,000 liters of Plus 91 gasoline, valued at 7.2 million colones, were seized.
It was stolen from the pipes of the national fuel system,”
added Recope in a statement.
The confiscated gasoline was delivered to Recope and taken to the El Alto plant in Ochomogo, where the respective treatment will be carried out, in order to save the hydrocarbon since, due to its handling, it could lose components.
