AyA signs agreement to end strike

On Thursday, the Executive President of the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (AyA), Yamileth Astorga, and the representative of the Trade Union Association of Workers of the AyA (ASTRAA), Hilda Esquivel, signed an agreement to end the strike no later than October 12th.

The strike at the institution was declared legal by a court. However, the Higher Administration of the AyA is determined to appeal this decision.

At the meeting, Ricardo Marín, advisor to the vice-ministry of Work and Safety of the labor area, also participated as mediator. The administration agreed not to establish any discriminatory conduct, disciplinary sanctions or retaliation against those who peacefully participated in the strike.

In addition, the parties made the commitment to negotiate the remedial plans or administrative measures, including wage cuts, due to the days off.
