Clients of the Banco Crédito Agricola de Cartago (Bancrédito) withdrew a total of ¢7.8 billion and $5 million in the first 72 hours after the entity announced that it had ceased financial intermediation.
These figures are equivalent to 8.8% of its collection portfolio in colones and 4.5% of the portfolio in dollars.
The minister of the Presidency, Sergio Alfaro, believes that the new Development Bank they hope to create would not compete with the Development Banking System.
Alfaro made a special appeal to those who maintain loans with the Bank so that they do not avoid the payment of their commitments. Those who do not pay, are exposed to staining their credit history in front of the entire National Financial System.
According to the minister, the cessation of financial intermediation was not a whimsical decision, but it rather responded to the needs of the bank.
The minister acknowledged that they did not notify Sugef about the changes until the final wording of the agreement was made.
