Basic rate increased to 4.55%

On January 12th, the basic passive rate (TBP) rose 20 basis points, reaching 4.55%, according to data released by the Central Bank on its website.

Now the indicator is 10 basis points higher than the figure shown in the first week of the year.

Last year, the basic rate reached the lowest levels of the year last 8 years. This behavior was influenced by the redefinition of the calculation of the indicator and the reductions of the monetary policy rate (MPR) carried out by the Central Bank throughout the year.

The basic rate is an average of the interest actually paid by banks, mutuals and cooperatives for deposits (savings and investments) in all terms.

This indicator serves as a reference for calculating monthly installments of long-term loans in colones.
