On June 23rd, Bernal Valverde, A Costa Rican scientist was awarded at the International Weed Science Congress, held in Prague, Czech Republic.
This congress is organized every four years by the International Weed Science Society and this year more than 700 scientists from around the world participated.
Valverde received this recognition for his work as a researcher, university professor, entrepreneur and world leader in weed science.
Valverde’ research is linked to weed management in rice cultivation and he is a pioneer in the characterization and management of Echinochloa colona, which is resistant to herbicides in rice.
Valverde has also been involved in the study and management of weed related to other crops including corn, coffee, oil palm and banana.
