Beware! Stress is a silent enemy!

Even though Costa Rica is one of the happiest countries in the world, different evils show a hidden face. Stress is one of those evils that make people, especially women, end up in the hospital.

Pressure, family, work and even academic problems could trigger a mental illness or even worse and this is seen in hospital care.

1,922 people ended up in a hospital for several disorders in which the stress was one of them: in fact, 72 people were hospitalized or were looking to get treated due to acute stress, post-traumatic stress and other reactions to severe stress.

It is worrying to see that really young women are the most discharged people: 1,176 women were assisted during 2016, out of which 562 were 20 to 44 years old and after them, 362 women aged from 45 to 64 years old stood out .

But that is not all. More than 35,000 people requested a psycology appointment at the CCSS in 2016.

We all have suffered from stress related to work, economic pressures or to day-to-day situations. Many people talk about the topic, but the truth is that people do not completely understand stress signs and the consequences that it could bring to our organism.

A stressed person usually takes refuge in food in order to satisfy some emotional needs, but that can bring a consequence: obesity.

In addition, the physical and emotional distress that it generates increases the risk of suffering from chronic depression, because it generates physical weariness, bad humor and sadness.

-It is also very common for stressed people to suffer from anxiety, which can cause your hair to fall out.

-Prevention is possible!

-Avoid being a victim.

-Enjoy the free time.

-Look for spaces for you, in which you also enjoy your company and groups, with your family and friends, to appease your worries.

-Recreation prevents stress and contributes to the feeling of well-being and pleasure.
