Brunca Region has the highest need for education

The children and adolescents of the Brunca Region in the province of Puntarenas are the ones who have fewer spaces for recreation and are more excluded from the Costa Rican educational system.

This is clear from the VIII Report “State of the Rights of Children and Adolescents (Edna)” of the Interdisciplinary Program of Studies on Social Action of the Rights of Children and Adolescents (Pridena) and the Golfito Campus of the UCR.

This report was responsible for making a diagnosis in different parts of Buenos Aires, Corredores, Coto Brus, Golfito and Osa.

According to Yolanda Barrantes, Regional Director of the Brunca Region of the National Children’s Patronage (PANI), during a visit in June in conjunction with the UCR, it was possible to detect certain common problems throughout the region.

The document highlights the urgency of working to include the populations of minors excluded from the education system.

The lack of access to education and culture among minors makes them much more vulnerable to misery and unhealthy lifestyles, even increasing the risk of addictions,”

stated the report.

It also highlights the need for greater investment to provide quality coverage in social, educational, health and cultural services.
