The business sector wants actions, not words, and they ask the president of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado and his cabinet to fulfill their promise to promote a reactivation of the national economy in its second year of administration.
Representatives of business chambers asked the president to promote a better environment for the development of their productive activities, which would translate into greater employability at a time when the unemployment rate in the country reached a scandalous 12% of the economically active population.
Yolanda Fernandez, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Costa Rica, highlighted the work of this administration to approve the fiscal plan in its first year, however, she argued that from her union they expect to see more measures for the containment of public spending.
Francisco Gamboa, executive director of the Chamber of Industries of Costa Rica also highlighted the support of the Executive Branch for the approval of the fiscal project, as well as having faced the strike last year. At the same time, he highlighted the impetus for the entry of Costa Rica into the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
However, he said that from the union they do not perceive actions of great impact for growth, reactivation and the fight against unemployment.
The Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of the Private Business Sector (UCCAEP) believes that several structural adjustments can be made, such as reducing the cost of public services, increase the operational efficiency of the State and lower the financial cost of the State and in general of Costa Ricans.
Laura Bonilla, president of the Chamber of Exporters, asked for special attention to agriculture and the drought generated by the El Niño weather phenomenon.
The construction sector also asks the president and his team for greater economic reactivation by means of a greater simplification of procedures for the start of companies and construction works, as well as better digitization plans.
The tourism sector, which has experienced a greater upturn this year, asked for the development of infrastructure works that improve access to tourist areas, said Shirley Calvo, executive director of the National Chamber of Tourism. The representative of the sector wants improvements in the customs and migration posts in the country and for an intervention in the security issue that guarantees a greater protection to the visitors of the country.
