The business sector of the country is demanding the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE) for a greater efficiency and a financial reengineering that allows it to get out of the crisis.
The claim of entrepreneurs comes at times when the entity and its executive president, Irene Cañas, are the focus of questioning, first by the way they conduct the entity and on the other hand by the secrecy with which they handle their administrative and financial issues, even in its rescue approach released this Wednesday.
The plan that was baptized “Strategy 4.0” proposes the route established for the period 2019-2023, whose objectives are to ensure financial sustainability, increase operational efficiency and consolidate the evolution of its business. The institution uploaded an extensive document to its website but without strong data.
The interim president of the Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of the Private Business Sector (Uccaep), Enrique Egloff, assured that in addition to efficiency and a new financial model, ICE should look for ways to reduce its operating costs and unnecessary expenses.
He added that if the entity is looking for new investments these should be done already and in innovative fields and not in “technologies of the past”. In turn, the representative of the business sector pointed to the need for the electricity market to enter a competitive framework.
