On Wednesday, 73 cadets began their training at the School of Traffic Police.
Their preparation is expected to be completed in 6 months.
The selection process started with 7,000 hopefuls, down to 300 eligible, and finally 73 people were chosen.
Óscar Araya, deputy director of the Training School, said that this is a time that had always expected.
Araya added that it’s not a secret that sooner or later the new officers will be tempted by bad practices on the roads,
but this uniform must be loved and respected.”
Mario Calderón, director of the Traffic Police, commented that he hopes this is the beginning of a successful path.
Once the course is finished, these people will be placed at the service of the communities in different areas of the country.
Carlos Villalta, Minister of Public Works, said this training has great value for both the Ministry and the country.
If we consider that right now we have about 670 traffic officers, with these cadets we would increase the police force by 10%,”
said Villalta.
Currently, there are 250 officers per shift, who are not nearly enough.
