Only between 2016 and 2017, 52 femicides occurred in Costa Rica (…) Behind this – without a doubt – there was abuse and fear… You and I can change history. So we are going to build a Costa Rica without violence.”
This is the message of a campaign created by the Attorney General of the Republic aiming to raise awareness among the population about violence against women.
With the sponsorship of people like Lizeth Castro, Natalia Monge, Mario Chacón, Franklin Chang, Marcia Saborio, and Leonel Moreira, the Public Ministry seeks society to speak, denounce, and collaborate with the eradication of this type of violence.
The Office of the Prosecutor indicated on Thursday afternoon that gender-based violence and sexual violence tend to happen in intimate areas, not to mention that the victims are often blamed for the events. That is why the call to action is not to be silent, but to denounce for a “A Costa Rica without violence!”
Leana Guillén, director of the Judicial School, also made a call to recognize sisterhood,
because we are stronger together.”
It’s more than physical violence,”
says the campaign, which sends a message so that no one is silent.
