This 1000 Corales Campaign for Costa Rica was presented this week, aiming to involve society in the restoration of coral reefs.
The main objective of the campaign is to grow 1000 fragments of coral in underwater nurseries to transplant them into degraded reefs of Golfo Dulce, in order to enhance the recovery of coral ecosystems.
In recent years the cultivation of three key species has been achieved.
These ecosystems determine the availability of habitat and food for more than 25% of the known marine life, however, it is estimated that more than 30% of the world’s coral reefs have been lost.
The campaign will also have the support of several women who are passionate for the conservation of the seas.
In our country there are countless women committed to the health of our seas, scientists in our conservation areas and many others who teach us how science can lead change,”
said Haydee Rodríguez, deputy minister of Water and Seas of the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
The initiative is co-organized by the NGO Raising Coral and the Pelagos collective.
