The National Chamber of Tourism (CANATUR) celebrated the approval of the National Tourism Day Law on September 27th. The date matches the celebration of the World Tourism Day, which was established in commemoration of the approval of the Statutes of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), on September 27th, 1970.
We are very pleased with the creation of a national day to highlight the value and importance of one of the leading industries among the main economic sectors of the country that show a strong positive growth,”
said Sary Valverde, president of CANATUR.
The Chamber explained that with the Law, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute was authorized to sign agreements to promote the date.
This gives us the possibility of promoting actions that allow us to strengthen collaboration among the different actors and highlight our industry, all aligned around the issue chosen by the UNWTO General Assembly,”
added Valverde.
The Tourism Satellite Account of the Central Bank of Costa Rica indicates that tourism represents 6.3% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It is estimated that more than 211 thousand people work in the sector.
